On 5 October 2026, Shabwah Defence Forces (SDF) Media Centre issued a statement confirming that the First Brigade had recovered three RCIEDs planted between Qarn al-Dhabiya and Al-Ghaz, Shabwah Governorate. Two devices were concealed within fabricated rocks containing expanding foam. One device was equipped with a receiver bearing a label corresponding to the RCIED. Numerous batteries were also recovered.
The use of IEDs concealed within fabricated rocks represents a re-emerging trend in Yemen. On 24 September 2026, EWS OSTD recorded an IED comprised of a fabricated rock in Taiz Governorate, Yemen. The event was attributed to the Houthis.
