In a statement published on 20 June 2026, the Syrian Ministry of Interior announced the arrest of Akram Saleh Al-Hamad, alias ‘Abdo Al-Tasni’ (Abdo the manufacturer), an alleged prominent ISIS explosives specialist in Eastern Syria. According to preliminary investigations and information from previously detained members of the same ISIS cell, Al-Hamad was considered a significant figure in ISIS and one of the organisation's prominent bomb-makers.
Investigative findings have linked Al-Hamad to multiple attacks including an event in Al-Bukamal and the emplacement of an IED targeting a military vehicle. He is also implicated in preparing and planting an explosive device intended to target Syrian Internal Security Forces members.
In coordination with the General Intelligence Service, units of the Ministry of Interior have seized explosive devices including several suicide belts and BME, including TNT blocks, detonators and det cord, amongst other items.
The arrest of Al-Hamad forms part of ongoing efforts launched by Syrian authorities to dismantle terrorist groups and their networks across Syria. In June 2026, the Syrian Interior Ministry announced the dismantling of seven ISIS cells and the arrest of 235 ISIS members over the last three months.
