Detonation of IED on Rwandan Army Vehicle - @johnspectator (X)

On 6 June 2026, a Rwandan Army vehicle was targeted by a roadside IED in Mocímboa da Praia District, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique. Islamic State Mozambique (ISM) claimed the attack alongside a video of the detonation, which they distributed via an IS affiliated news outlet. No casualties have been reported following the attack.

At least five IED attacks in Cabo Delgado Province have been claimed by ISM within the last month, each targeting military personnel and equipment. The resurgence of ISM activity coincides with growing instability in the province. Since 2025, ISM has boosted their financial capabilities by perpetrating extortion and ransom schemes. Additionally, in March 2026, Rwanda considered withdrawing Rwandan troops from Mozambique due to unsustainable funding in Cabo Delgado Province. While a deal between Mozambique and Rwanda has since been reached, tensions in the region continue to build.
