On 3 June 2026, surveillance footage released by Kuwait's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA, Kuwait) showed a reported HESA OWA Shahed-136 UAV striking the roof of Terminal 1 at Kuwait International Airport. As a result of the attack, significant damage to the passenger terminal was reported. Ministry of Health spokesperson Dr Abdullah Al-Sanad reported a total of 64 casualties, including an Indian national killed. Investigators recovered an MD550 engine wreckage from the scene, an engine type previously found in Shahed-136 UAVs.
The incident was the first fatal attack since the US-Iran ceasefire agreement on 8 April 2026. Additionally on 3 June 2026, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Defence said it had intercepted 17 UAVs and 13 hostile missiles across Kuwaiti airspace.
Later, the Islamic Republic of Iran Armed Forces issued a statement denying the attack on the passenger terminal, suggesting the damage was caused by a U.S. missile interceptor. U.S. Central Command has since rejected this claim.
Event IDs: 20446 and 20492.
