Four IEDs were recovered following intelligence-led operations conducted by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on 20 July 2026, in Sarira, Garissa County. The devices were identified as part of Operation Amani Boni (OAB) during route clearance and link-up patrols along critical corridors used by security forces and civilians.
Amongst the IEDs recovered and rendered safe is a pressure-plate IED. Days later, personnel uncovered three additional IEDs in the Sarira area, positioned approximately 5.1 km, 8.27 km and 8.4 km along major supply routes. Photographs released by the KDF showed suspected device components and debris, including a vehicle battery and a container with corrugated handles.
