
On the night of 15 August 2026, an IED was discovered within Gaggo Mahal police jurisdiction by the Amritsar Rural Police, Punjab State. Gaurav Yadav, the Director General of Police (DGP) in Punjab, stated that the device was intended to be used in a foiled plot targeting a police establishment. OSTD has recorded the seizure of similar explosive devices and BME, of which a number involve foiled plots across Punjab State. In this case, the IED was recovered during a patrol, which took place as part of a heightened security plan on the run up to India’s Independence Day.
Separately, a nationwide counter-terror operation resulted in the arrest of 253 Shahzad Bhatti Network (SBN) operatives. According to India’s Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, the network is directly linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency. The operation yielded a number of explosive devices and weaponry. Of the arrests made, 44 SBN operatives were detained in Punjab State.
