Following a UAV attack on 29 July 2026, a fire broke out on two carrier ships at Damietta Port in Egypt, a key liquified natural gas (LNG) hub. The Egyptian Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Centre released a statement in response to initial reports claiming that the fire had been caused by a malfunction in the engine room. Additionally, they confirmed that the attack had not resulted in any casualties. Both vessels targeted, Energos Winter and Gaslog Salem, were LNG carriers. The vessels were identified as US owned Energos Winter (IMO: 9256614), belonging to the company Energos Infrastructure, and Greek-owned Gaslog Salem (IMO: 9638915), sailing under the Bermuda flag.
This incident marks the first time that Egyptian infrastructure has been impacted in the conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran. Attacks of a similar nature, targeting fuel tankers and energy infrastructures, have occurred throughout the Gulf and the Red Sea during the ongoing conflict.
