On 21 April 2026, the National Army of Colombia announced the recovery of at least 1600 kg of explosive material, similar to ANFO, concealed in black plastic bags. Sources state that the cache of BME seized was enough to manufacture nearly 8,000 IEDs. The BME was recovered from an illegal depot in a rural area of Puerto Asis Municipality, in a joint operation conducted by the 27th Combat Engineer Battalion and the 30th Riverine Marine Infantry Battalion. Military intelligence and the National Police's Criminal Investigation Division (SIJIN) supported the operation, which was completed as part of the Ayacucho Plus Campaign Plan. Segunda Marquetalia Estructura Comandos de Frontera, a dissident group of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), reportedly operates from Puerto Asis Municipality.
