Improvised explosive device components laid on white cloth, including bottles, cylinders, wiring and a timer circuit board

On the night of 19 October 2026, an IED was recovered near the entrance to the Mausoleum of Lalon Shah in Cheuria, Kushtia District. The device consisted of two aluminium canisters secured together, along with a battery, timer module and relay. Plastic bottles containing petrol were also found alongside the device, reportedly intended to intensify the fire following the explosion.

Since 1 July 2026, EWS has noted an increase in IED incidents in Bangladesh, amidst ongoing street protests over rising living costs. On 24 July 2026, EWS OSTD recorded an IED concealed inside an umbrella beneath the Motijheel metro station in Dhaka. Police have since identified similarities between the Motijheel device and the one recovered in Cheuria.
