Technical Exploitation
Counter Improvised Explosive Device (CIED) is reliant upon effective evaluation and mitigation of the threat. A fundamental part of analysing and evaluating the threat is exploitation of incidents and finds of bomb making equipment (BME). BME could be complete devices, individual component sets or tooling to facilitate the creation of IED devices.
The Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) requires additional skills due to the addition of frequency & modulation interrogation on top of the standard assessment of device construction and electronics. This technical exploitation course provides revision on basic electronics, IED & RCIED electronics as well as Radio Frequency (RF) basics. Forensic awareness, scene of crime analysis and component identification is also covered as the student is taken through the threat cycle and subsequent waveform/counter measures development.
